Southpaw Guitars had it's beginning in 1980, when lefty guitarist Jim Duncan and friend Bill Townsend opened a small shop called Trader's Corner Guitars in Houston. In 1982 they moved their business to the Bellaire area renaming it Gold'n Guitars and Bellaire Music. Doing the Texas guitar show circuit they started acquiring , stocking and selling more lefties. In 1990, Duncan bought Townsend's interest and renamed the business Southpaw Guitars. By 1994, he had an an 8,000 person mailing list and 40% lefty mix. Then in 1998 came the internet. By 1999 he was carrying 95% lefties. Today its about 97%. He is the largest lefty only Gibson dealer in the world with clients flying in from every corner of the globe to buy.
