The 9th Chord Slides
This was one of the first blues chord “inflections” that I discovered in my formative years, listening to folks like Mike Bloomfield and T-Bone Walker. It’s very easy to imitate the sound, but it took me a while to actually discover that these slides came from 9th chords!!

In this lesson, I’ll get your hands around the proper 9th chord positions, and how these three-note slides can be so effective to use in both rhythm and lead applications. I will also show you some of the melodic “extensions” that exist above and beyond these positions, and before you know it, we’ll really make this style a part of your very own arsenal of runs and ideas.

The right hand is very important as well, and we’ll explore a few of the endless picking patterns that are appropriate for this chord and lick structure.—Arlen Roth
